LYNN — Lynn and State Police are investigating three serious car crashes that occurred in the city over a two-day span.
Four people, including two pedestrians, were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital following the collisions.
One of the pedestrians, a 55-year-old Lynn man who was struck by a hit-and-run driver on the Lynnway late Monday night, was still in critical condition on Tuesday, state police said.
State Police responded to that crash, near 333 Lynnway, shortly before 11:30 p.m. and found the victim, but learned that the car that struck him had left the scene.
State Police are searching for the car that struck the pedestrian, which is possibly a dark colored SUV, black or blue in color, that may have front end damage.
An investigation has indicated that the vehicle was traveling northbound on the Lynnway when it struck the man, which propelled the victim onto the southbound side of the road. The vehicle then drove on Market Street, state police said.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash, has information about the car, or may have seen a car matching that description on the Lynnway or elsewhere in the city at or after 11:30 p.m. Monday is urged to contact the State Police Revere barracks at (781) 284-0038.
Hours earlier, another man had been struck on the southbound side of the Lynnway near Dunkin’ Donuts, state police said.
In that instance, an 86-year-old man was struck by a 2018 Mazda CX5 SUV while he was crossing the Lynnway in his motorized wheelchair shortly before 4 p.m. Monday, state police said.
The man was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver, a 19-year-old Lynn woman, was not injured.
No charges have been filed.
“Multiple witnesses stated that the victim in the wheelchair abruptly shot across the roadway into traffic, which had a green light,” the state police statement said.
Less than 24 hours had passed since the last two crashes, when Lynn Police responded to a two-car head-on collision at the intersection of Lynnfield Street and Cumberland Circle Tuesday afternoon.
“It appears from the preliminary investigation that the vehicle being operated by a male crossed the double yellow line and struck a vehicle that was headed westbound out of the city,” said Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec.
The driver who appears to have crossed into oncoming traffic sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, while the other driver, a woman, was treated for minor injuries.
Both drivers were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.
The crash, reported shortly before 2:30 p.m., caused traffic to be backed up on Lynnfield Street until the scene had cleared about an hour later.
The two Lynnway crashes are under investigation by State Police and Lynn Police are investigating Tuesday’s crash on Lynnfield Street.
For the Lynnfield Street one, no charges have been filed and there “doesn’t appear to be anything criminal,” said Kmiec.
