MARBLEHEAD — Arthur B. Schwartz is now the official president of Marblehead Rotary Club.
Schwartz, who was installed June 25, had been the acting president since March — one week before the COVID-19 lockdown was imposed.
As acting president, Schwartz became the compass that guided the 85 members through the unchartered territories of isolation. He took on a critical role to make sure that Rotary would continue doing what it does best — connect with community members to offer support where it’s needed.
His positive attitude directly enabled Rotary’s efforts to work successfully with the Council on Aging to secure a three-month supply of food provisions for the town’s elderly, who may have otherwise gone hungry.
That same enthusiasm assures future success with the initiative of co-sponsoring a Red Cross blood drive with the Lynch/Van Otterloo YMCA on July 19. Schwartz’s efforts have enabled Rotary’s members to help outside of our community too. Rotary worked with the Marblehead Interact Club to fund a toilet/latrine project in Mewat, India.
Marblehead Rotary has been a focal point of Schwartz’s life since he joined in 2012. His interaction isn’t limited to the time and effort he puts into Rotary as a volunteer; he also invests in it. Rotary recognizes Schwartz as a Paul Harris Fellow; a member of the Paul Harris Society and a Major Donor to the Rotary Foundation.
Schwartz grew up in Marblehead and is a graduate of Rutgers College. He earned his MBA at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. His first job after graduate school was with Arthur D. Little in Cambridge.
Schwartz and his wife of 30 years, Rosann, have two adult children, Emily and Matt. They certainly kept him engaged. Not only did he chaperone Emily and her teammates to badminton championships all over the world, but he also became certified as an International Umpire and National Referee. He officiated World Championship and Olympic qualifying tournaments.
Schwartz also serves on/advises the boards of several organizations, including Marblehead Little Theatre, Marblehead Bank, and the Northeast Badminton Association.
When he isn’t leading Rotary as 2020-2021 president, or working at Bluestone Capital, a private family real estate entity in which he is principal, he can be found entertaining neighbors and friends on his front porch, along with his pups, Kiki and Cooper.
During the summer months, he and Rosann and their dogs enjoy spending time at Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire.
