LYNN — The family of a Lynn man who died after he was shot on Boston Street last Wednesday night is raising funds for his funeral expenses.
Raoul Eam, 38, died from his injuries last Friday morning at Massachusetts General Hospital, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s office.
Eam had been transported to Mass General after Lynn Police found him suffering from a gunshot wound at the intersection of Gardner and Boston streets shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday.
No arrests have been made, and the matter is under investigation by the Essex County District Attorney’s office, the Essex State Police Detective Unit and Lynn Police.
Following Eam’s death, his cousin, Phallika Mon, set up a GoFundMe page on behalf of his wife and five children with the aim of collecting donations to pay for funeral expenses.
As of Monday, the family has exceeded its $15,000 goal, but Mon is encouraging people to continue donating, as the funds will also go toward college tuition for Eam’s children. His oldest son recently graduated from Lynn Classical High School and another son will be a senior in the fall, according to Mon.
“Any amount from the public would tremendously help,” said Mon. “We don’t have a specific number since there are five children ranging from different ages. Their mother is a stay-at-home mom, and Raoul was the sole provider for the family. Without him, there is no income.”
Eam worked for Greater Lynn Senior Services and was adored by his family, which is still “shaken” by his death, Mon said.
“He was friendly toward everyone,” said Mon. “His kids loved and adored him. He was always there for them.”
