LYNN — Lynn firefighters rescued four people from a house fire on Broadway early Saturday morning.
At approximately 4 a.m., firefighters from the Broadway fire station responded to a call for smoke in the area on Lummus Court, Lynn Fire Capt. Joseph Zukas said.
After not seeing anything, Engine 10 crews investigated further and found a house fire at 350 Broadway, Zukas said.
“It was amazing that nobody called for this fire,” said Zukas. “They found it themselves. The outcome could have been a lot worse if they didn’t discover this (when considering) the time. Everyone was sleeping.”
Fire crews used a ladder to rescue a man and his young son from the second floor apartment and went inside the building to get another two people out of another apartment, Zukas said.
There were no injuries to residents or firefighters, Zukas said.
The fire department is still investigating how the fire started, but it appears to have stemmed from some trash on the outside of the building, which is a mix of apartments and a business, Zukas said.
The fire started on the outside of the house and was contained there. There was some smoke damage inside of the building, but the house is still habitable, Zukas said.
“I think it was a pretty good find by the crew,” said Zukas. “There was not a call for the fire at this address. The fire department found it on its own which is amazing. It could have been a lot worse.”
