In recognition of their commitment to service, 18 members of the Assumption College Class of 2020, including Lauren Salerno of Peabody, have been awarded the prestigious Crown & Shield Award, which honors students who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and participated in service during their four years at the Worcester school. The crown and shield are two key elements of the Assumption College seal and the award recognizes graduating seniors who have protected (shield) and furthered (crown) in the interest of the student body and the College community.
The following local residents have graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston: Talon Gendron of Lynn, Alva Shkoza and Jessica Swenson of Revere, and Nathan Procopio and Kaleigh Stirrat of Saugus. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the university celebrated its Spring 2020 Commencement on April 25 with a special virtual toast in honor of the graduates.
Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Penn., has released the Dean’s List for outstanding academic achievement during the spring semester of the 2019-20 academic year. A student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0. The following students achieved Dean’s List status: Angel Bautista, class of 2020, from Lynn; Ralph Corbelle, class of 2021, from Revere; Grace DiGrande, class of 2023, from Nahant; Andrew Doane, class of 2022, from Lynn; Meagan Hathaway, class of 2022, from Marblehead; Kayla McCellon, class of 2021, from Lynn; Evelin Morales, class of 2021, from Revere; Melaina Polan, class of 2022, from Revere; Chloe Rieckelman, class of 2023, from Marblehead; Amanda Schillinger, class of 2023, from Marblehead; Renne Venico, class of 2022, from Salem.
Madison Robbins of Swampscott, a Fashion and Retail Merchandising major at Lasell University in Newton, shared a TED Ed lesson on fashion ethics and sustainability as part of the institution’s virtual Connected Learning Symposium. Robbins created a lesson on “How Does ‘Clean’ Beauty Relate to the Green Guide Free of Claims?” Professor Kathleen Grevers said the students were asked to choose a topic within the Federal Trade Commission’s Green Guides and relate it back to the marketing of fashion items.
Jaqueline Cordeiro of Peabody was elected to Lasell University’s Student Alumni Association executive board for the 2020-2021 academic year. Cordeiro, a Fashion Design and Production major, was elected the SAA’s VP of Philanthropy.
Gianni Hill of Revere, a rising senior majoring in Hispanic studies and public policy, has been elected to serve on the Hamilton College Student Assembly as president for the Class of 2021 during the 2020-21 academic year. The Student Assembly is a duly-elected representative organization that works on behalf of the undergraduate student population. As such, it acts with the ability to work and communicate with the faculty, staff, university administration, and other affiliated groups at the Clinton, NY, college.
Will Kingston of Swampscott, whose major is Communication, and Jared Neuss of Marblehead, whose major is Finance, made the Spring 2020 Dean’s List at The University of Utah. To qualify, students must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher in at least 12 graded credit hours during any one term.
Stephanie Gillespie of Revere has been inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau honor society at Becker College. Gillespie is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Sigma Theta Tau is the Honor Society of Nursing. To be inducted, students must have completed at least half of the nursing curriculum, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0, rank in the top 35 percent of the graduating class and meet the expectation of academic integrity.
Becker College of Worcester/Leicester announces the graduation of more than 430 students at a virtual commencement celebration, including the following local residents: Rachel Mirabella, of Marblehead, who graduated with an Associate of Science in Veterinary Science, Veterinary Technology Concentration; Emma Nayiga of Revere has graduated with an Associate of Science in Nursing; Daniela Palacios of Lynn has graduated with an Associate of Science in Veterinary Science, Animal Care Concentration; Megan Truesdale of Peabody has graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Computer Science.
