Peabody is one virus fatality away from a gruesome milestone, as the city’s death toll now stands at 99.
Nine more people have died from the coronavirus since last Wednesday and the city’s total number of confirmed cases is 842, according to Peabody Health Director Sharon Cameron.
Lynn also reported additional deaths on Monday, as its death toll has crept up to 75.
Elsewhere, Marblehead and Saugus reported additional virus fatalities and COVID-19 cases on Monday.
Four more Lynn residents have died since last Friday, but the city reported its first collective decrease in new cases since the outbreak began.
When factoring in the number of residents who have recovered and those who have died from COVID-19, the city now has 2,844 confirmed cases. However, the city has 18 fewer active cases since Sunday, which puts its total of active cases at 2,177.
The number of new cases has been on the decline all weekend, with 42 new cases reported on Friday and 28 and 20 new cases reported on Saturday and Sunday respectively, which culminated with the collective decrease on Monday, according to city data.
Data released by the city shows new cases peaked at 115 on April 24, and have been mostly trending downward since that time, with the exception of a few day-to-day spikes.
However, the elderly continue to die from the virus in Lynn. Of the city’s 75 deaths, 62 have been residents between the ages of 65-104. Another 13 people between the ages of 45-64 have died. No one under 45 has died from the virus, according to city data.
Marblehead is reporting its death toll has doubled since last Monday, May 4. Sixteen residents have now died from the virus and its caseload has increased over that time period from 127 to 161, according to the town.
In Saugus, two more residents have died since Friday. The town now has 424 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 22 deaths.
Lynnfield is reporting an additional three cases since Sunday, which brings its caseload to 87. Eleven residents have died.
Nahant is reporting an additional two residents have been infected since Friday, which brings the town’s totals to 34 confirmed cases and six deaths.
At press time, Revere and Swampscott had not released updated numbers. As of Thursday, Revere has 1,338 cases and 53 deaths and Swampscott has 110 cases and seven deaths.
