SAUGUS — Saugus’s compost site will reopen for a trial period on May 12 after a brief closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Services at the site, located behind the Department of Public Works at 515 Main Street, will resume Monday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Visits will be by appointment-only and will take place every 10 minutes.
Residents will not be required to have a compost site sticker at this time, but the town asks that all visitors to the site be prepared to show a valid identification for proof of residency. Compost stickers are not currently being sold due to the pandemic.
Yard waste must be disposed of in brown compost bags or open containers. The town will accept grass clippings, leaves, and brush. No branches or limbs larger than three inches in diameter are permitted.
Visitors will still be required to adhere to the CDC and MDPH guidelines regarding gatherings, social distancing, and face coverings.
In a statement released Friday, town manager Scott Crabtree reminded Saugus residents that safety is the town’s top priority.
“The Town is concerned about the health and safety of our residents and employees, and the Town is requiring that the COVID-19 orders of Governor Baker and the Saugus Board of Health be followed at all times,” he said.
