Lynn Classical has announced its choices for Male and Female Scholar Athlete of the Year, recognizing seniors Aidan Dow and Kiara Edmonds for their outstanding careers. Every year, each school in the Northeastern Conference picks their top Male and Female Scholar Athletes. The athletes and their parents are presented a plaque and are recognized for their achievement.
Dow is a well-respected student-athlete at Classical, where he has maintained a 3.9 GPA taking Honors and AP classes while also playing three varsity sports. Dow has made the honor roll every quarter of his high school career to this point.
Dow is also a Member of the National Honor society while also taking part in various community projects. He has assisted in coaching Pop Warner football as well as Little League baseball. Additionally, Dow also helps out at local youth sports clinics. Each year, Dow participates in “Elf Day” where he visits and helps children at Lynn public elementary schools.
Athletically, Dow is very well respected by his coaches, teachers, family and peers.
Dow has received numerous awards and accolades in his high school career. He was named to the All-Star team in baseball, as well as the Massachusetts State Select team in both his sophomore and junior years. Dow was named Northeastern Conference Player of the Month in April 2019 for baseball. Dow also received the football coaches award in 2018 as a sophomore. He was also named player of the week in his senior year (November 28, 2019) after intercepting 2 passes (returning one for a touchdown) in a big win on Thanksgiving Day for Classical against rival English. Dow started for all three varsity sports — basketball, football and baseball).
Additionally, while in school Dow was also traveling across the United States participating in baseball tournaments for the Northeast Evo Shield Canes select baseball team. Aidan also played for Greater Lynn Babe Ruth All Star team, where they won the state tournament and participated in the Regional tournament for the past two years.
While a student-athlete at Classical High School, Edmonds has maintained a 4.3 GPA while taking both Honors and AP courses as well as making Honor Roll every quarter. She is a member of her school’s National Honors Society.
Edmonds participates and donates blood to the American Red Cross blood drives and participated in “Elf Day” at Shoemaker. She is a Junior Committee member of Stop the Violence Committee Lynn, which is a non-profit organization that creates events to help end the violence in the community.
Athletically, Edmonds is a three-sport athlete as she has been a part of Classical’s volleyball, basketball and softball teams for four years and was a senior captain for the volleyball and basketball team. Making the varsity softball team as a freshman, she claimed her spot in the lineup as the designated hitter. In addition, in her junior year she was named a 2019 NEC All-Star for her softball team. Edmonds has played both basketball and softball since early elementary school and picked up volleyball her freshman year. Furthering her education, Edmonds has been accepted to all 9 colleges she has applied to and will be furthering her education to study Forensic Science and will potentially continue her softball career as well.
