LYNN — Ten local artists will each receive $1,000 grants for creative placemaking projects that will demonstrate positivity and inclusivity through their art.
The grants, through the Downtown Lynn Cultural District’s Canvas the City creative community placemaking initiative, come from an allocation of state funds earmarked for arts & culture by Sen. Brendan Crighton (D, 3rd Essex).
Grant recipients are Annette Sykes, “Mosaic Sidewalk Project”; Emmanuelle Le Gal, “Flag Tape LynnArts Building”; Tia Cole, “Village Tree Traveling Exhibition”; Daveth Cheth, “Sramol (Shadow) Living Wall Project”; Tim Hansen, “digs Enamel Workshop for Teens”; Christie Connolly, “OASIS Art Making Workshop”; Joanna Corea, “Craftivism Fiber Art Workshop for Teens”; Dave Simmons, “Live Music at The Plant Sale”; Ana Masacote, “Dance to Power Queer Latin Dance Lynn”; Koeun Neak, “Canvas the City Documentary.”
“We are excited to be a part of such transformative projects throughout the city that will directly engage members of our community, especially our youth, in positive, educational and inclusive ways at a time when they need it most,” said Cultural District Director Carolyn Cole.
Although initially awarded in March, the advent of the COVID-19 public health crisis has altered how artists and creators are able to practice their craft. The Cultural District is steadfast in its dedication to Lynn’s creative community. These grant recipients will be supported every step of the way to see that their projects come to fruition.
