SALEM — The Salem Maritime National Historic Site will present a free virtual book talk with Dr. Kelli Carter Jackson, historian and author of “Force & Freedom: Black Abolitionists and the Politics of Violence,” on Saturday, May 23, 11 a.m.-noon. Jackson will discuss the connections between historical and contemporary struggles for social justice.
Jackson is the Knafel Assistant Professor of the Humanities in the Department of Africana Studies at Wellesley College. In 2019, “Force & Freedom” was a finalist for the Museum of African American History Stone Prize Book Award.
All are invited, whether they’ve read the book or not. Afterwards, participants are invited to stay on the call to engage in a book club discussion of “Force & Freedom,” from 12:15 to 1 p.m.
