A cancer survivor gives back in Jimmy Fund walk

Strates Frangules with Amy and their children, Jack and Elaina.

Lynnfield resident Strates Frangules first participated in the  Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk  presented by Hyundai when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease in 2002.

“I want to give back to the great people at the Jimmy Fund who helped me conquer cancer,” said Strates.

The Jimmy Fund Walk happened shortly after Strates began treatment with chemotherapy. Strates said the only years he missed taking part in the  Walk were for his daughter, Elaina’s, birth in 2015, and son, Jack’s, birth in 2017.

Elaina and Jack are now Walk participants carrying their “I Walk for Daddy” signs made by Strates’ mother. Strates will walk with the “Frangules Family Team” with a $500 fundraising goal.

He said he loves seeing all of the families get together on Walk day and focused on curing cancer.

“It’s great seeing some patients who are in remission and also patients who are still fighting against this terrible disease,” Strates said.

The Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 4 with the goal of raising money to support all forms of adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at the nation’s premier cancer center, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The Jimmy Fund Walk has raised more than $145 million in more than 30 years. Every dollar raised helps patients at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
