SAUGUS — Saugus’s community CHARM Center/Compost and Recycling Site will close indefinitely due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns.
The closure, announced Thursday in a statement from the Town of Saugus, is based on Gov. Charlie Baker’s stay-at-home orders, and on social distancing guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH).
Residents will receive a notification once the site reopens.
“This is a reminder that the Town of Saugus Health Department has received more than 50 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 from the MDPH,” the statement read. “The Saugus Health Department strongly believes that additional unrecognized cases DO exist in town, as does in the county, state, and country. Due to the fact that they are undetected, some of these infected individuals may not be properly isolated or quarantined, which is why the Health Department continues to strongly request everyone stay at home unless it is essential to go out.”
Residents have been reminded to continue practicing diligent social distancing, avoid gatherings of more than 10, and to follow the guidelines set up by the MDPH and CDC.
Those with questions about the site closure can call Lorna Cerbone at the Solid Waste and Recycling Department at (781) 231-4036 for more information.
