LYNN — There are now 28 cases of COVID-19 in Lynn, “which includes two members of the city’s workforce,” according to a statement from the office of Mayor Thomas McGee.
According to the mayor’s spokeswoman Elizabeth Gervacio, the city has been informed of the cases by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Both employees who have contracted the virus disclosed their conditions to the city’s Health Department, which then “immediately contacted all city staff who may have been in close contact with the impacted employees and implemented self-quarantine procedures accordingly.”
The city is recommending residents follow Gov. Charlie Baker’s two-week stay-at-home advisory, wash hands regularly, and maintain social distancing practices. A food drive at Lynn City Hall on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. will take place. Please bring non-perishable food items in paper bags to the side parking lot next to the Verizon building. The drive is done in a drive-through style and donors will not need to leave their cars.
If you are a senior citizen in need of food assistance, please call (781) 586-6740.
“Residents are still able to go outside for a brief period of time to walk, run, or other types of exercise, but they must still follow the social distancing protocols of staying 6 feet away from others. The coronavirus is spread very easily from person to person, and individuals can still spread the virus even if they are not showing symptoms. We need to all work together to do our part to prevent community spread by practicing social distancing at all times,” McGee said.
City officials continue to contact anyone who needs to self-quarantine, and provide updates on COVID-19 on the city website, www.ci.lynn.ma.us.
