LYNN — A massive four-alarm fire that destroyed two homes on Moulton Street, displaced 34 people and injured two firefighters was caused by careless disposal of smoking materials, according to Lynn Fire Capt. Joseph Zukas.
The cigarettes were discarded on the rear porches of 1-3 Moulton St., and the resulting fire quickly spread next door to another triple decker home at 5 Moulton, Zukas said.
“It got going,” said Zukas. “The close proximity of the houses to each other, wood porches and an abundance of oxygen — that was a fuel to the fire. Luckily, nobody got hurt or killed.”
Two other homes, 7 Moulton and a house on Boston Street, were also damaged in the nighttime fire, which required a response from every surrounding community’s fire department.
