Lynnfield public schools are closed through March 20 in response to the coronavirus.
In a statement issued Thursday, Superintendent Jane Tremblay said:
“My first priority is always the safety of our students and adults in our schools. As we deal with COVID-19 the one thing that I think we can all agree on is: there are far too many unknowns right now- that is changing literally by the minute. So I think it is time to stop, pause, take a breathe and regroup. I am going to close the schools for a week. We definitely will be closed starting tomorrow, there will be no school tomorrow and we will remain closed through March 20. I will continue to work closely with our Emergency Management Team, local and state officials as well as the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to plan for after March 20. I will be in touch with our families and the community by Thursday, March 19 to discuss plans moving forward.”
The public library and senior center are also closed until further notice.
The decision to close schools came a day after Tremblay and Town Administrator Robert Dolan announced Summer Street School would close for four days of cleaning after a school employee reportedly came in contact with two people potentially exposed to coronavirus.
