“The City of Lynn is continuing to monitor the evolving COVID-19 situation and will provide regular updates on the city website, social media and the Smart 911 emergency notification when necessary,” said Mayor Thomas M. McGee.
“There are currently no confirmed cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus in the City of Lynn. Based on the governor’s declared state of emergency, the City of Lynn is exercising all preventive measures available,” said McGee.
Lynn Public Schools will be closed Friday for a staff professional day to determine the school district’s plan to properly prepare a response to the COVID-19 situation moving forward. All LPS staff will report for a normal work day.
All governmental non-essential in-person meetings and large group gatherings will be postponed, suspended or canceled. Thursday’s School Committee meeting was canceled by McGee “out of an abundance of caution related to the evolving COVID-19 situation.”
The city recommends, per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Gov. Charlie Baker, that residents and private entities refrain from holding any large gatherings, according to the mayor.
KIPP Academy will be closed for the next two weeks, beginning today.
The MIAA has canceled state championship basketball games involving St. Mary’s and Lynn English. They were scheduled for Saturday at the DCU Center in Worcester.
The North Shore Community College spring break has been extended to include next week. This means that students are not expected to return to campus and to their courses until Monday, March 23.
Raw Artworks will be closed Friday. All programming at RAW will be canceled as well. There have been no cases or presumptive cases of COVID-19 at RAW
Friday night’s Friendly Knights of St. Patrick dinner at the Hibernian Hall in Lynn has been postponed to a later date due to concerns about the COVID-19 virus.
The Ancient Order of Hibernians St. Patrick’s Day dinner Tuesday at Hibernian Hall has been postponed to a future date.
The Lynn Housing Authority luncheon Tuesday has been postponed to a later date.
The Riveting Broads Summit scheduled for Friday has been postponed to a later date. The group will be meeting as an organizing committee in the next few days to determine the ideal time for rescheduling and will keep those interested apprised of all details in real time.
Lynn Community TV has postponed its April 13 documentary screening of “Don’t think I’ve forgotten: Cambodia’s Lost Rock n Roll.” The monthly free film series as a whole will be postponed until further notice.
Girls Scouts Robotics night on March 26 is postponed.
The Grand Army of the Republic has cancelled its regularly scheduled Civil War Roundtable meeting.
The Lynn Fireworks Fundraiser at the Lazy Dog on Sunday, March 15 has been canceled. Lynn Shamrock T-Shirts are still for sale in Room 305 of City Hall.
The North Shore Latino Business Associaton’s Networking/General Meeting on March 18 has been cancelled.
The Lynn Police Department blood drive scheduled for Saturday, March 14, at Lynn City Hall has been canceled.
The Kakarona center/Khmer New Year Festival board has canceled the Khmer New Year Festival 2020 scheduled for April 25 for the safety of the public’s health.” Their March 21st fundraiser has also been postponed. Full statement from them is in the link.
Family & Children’s Service of Greater Lynn Inc. has postponed its March Breakfast Open House. It is working on selecting a new date.
SWAMPSCOTT
Swampscott Public Schools has canceled school for students on Friday. Teachers are expected to report as usual. All upcoming field trips, the mandatory Spring athletics meeting, the High School Science Fair, robotics competition, and participation in the National DECA Competition in July are also canceled.
DANVERS
Sunday’s St. John’s Prep football championship banquet has been postponed. The school is working with the Danversport Yacht Club to reschedule the event for a later date.
Danvers Public Schools are closed until March 20.
MARBLEHEAD
The Me&Thee 50th Anniversary season will be paused immediately out of an abundance of caution for our volunteers, audience members and performers over the rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus. The Me&Thee will be closed beginning Friday, March 13th.
In response to the State of Emergency declared by Governor Baker plus updated requests from the CDC, The Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Marblehead Public Health Director, the Me&Thee will remain closed until further notice.
Me&Thee will attempt to reschedule all of its upcoming concerts at a later date. The Me&Thee is now developing a plan to offer refunds and/or credits to all who have purchased tickets for our upcoming shows.
PEABODY
The Peabody Area Chamber of Commerce Health and Wellness exposition scheduled for March 28 at the Northshore Mall has been postponed in cooperation with mall managers and the Salem Chamber of Commerce to mid-September.
LYNNFIELD
The Summer Street School has been closed until Monday for cleaning, and the senior center has been closed until further notice.
METRO NORTH YMCA
The Metro North YMCA, which encompasses Lynn, Saugus, Peabody, Melrose and Stoneham, is limiting branch access to Metro North members only, and instituting a “social interaction zone” with only select pieces of equipment available to members. The YMN is taking the following measures:
- Branch access is limited: No guest passes will be sold and the YMCA national reciprocity program is suspended.
- Limited group exercise attendance: Group fitness classes are limited to 20/class. Group cycle classes are limited to 10/class.
- No props in classes: Weights, mats, chairs, and blocks will be removed from fitness studios. Instructors will have modifications available during class.
- Medically-based programs like LiveSTRONG at the Y, Enhance for Seniors and Chair Yoga classes are cancelled.
- No new pool or party rentals in branches until further notice.
- The Y is instituting a “social interaction zone” which means only select pieces of fitness equipment can be utilized to ensure a proper six-foot safe zone.
- Youth Basketball Programs will be cancelled until Saturday, April 4.
- Intense and on-going cleaning will continue.
