SWAMPSCOTT — Friends and family will gather Friday at Congregation Shirat Hayam at 11 a.m. Friday to remember the late Diana Litman, mother of state Rep. Lori Ehrlich.
Ehrlich, who represents Swampscott, Marblehead, and part of Lynn in the state legislature, posted news of her mother’s death Thursday “after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s that spanned nearly nine years.”
“Though everyone who knew her will miss her terribly, she would not want us to be sad,” Ehrlich stated in her Facebook post.
The memorial service at Congregation Shirat Hayam, 55 Atlantic Ave., Swampscott is followed by food and celebration “where we will celebrate,” wrote Ehrlich, “her heart full of love, and her joie de vivre.”
Diana Litman’s obituary posted online on Thursday listed her age as 81. In addition to Ehrlich and her husband, Bruce; she leaves her son, Bradley Litman of Swampscott, and grandchildren Casey and Jamie Ehrlich.
She was the daughter of the late George and Celia Silverman. She was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Harvey Litman, and twin brothers, Donald and Kenneth Silverman.
Her obituary states she was born in Peabody and graduated high school third in her class. She was proud to attend Brandeis University, earning a degree in economics which, the obituary reads, “proved essential when she and the love of her life, Harvey Litman, built a CPA firm where she was the bookkeeper and office manager.”
She enjoyed traveling and loved music as a gifted concert pianist and avid concert goer.
She was a voracious reader and animal lover who was partial to panda bears. Family times together revolved around holidays and pool parties.
Ehrlich requested that remembrances be made to the Brandeis University Alumni Fund in memory of Diana Silverman Litman, Class of 1960 at www.giving.brandeis.edu or to the Anti-Defamation League, 40 Court St. #12, Boston MA 02108.
