The Lynnfield boys hockey team ran into a buzzsaw Tuesday night, as the No. 11 Pioneers fell to No. 6 North Andover, 5-2, in the opening round of the Division 2 North tournament at Woburn Memorial Rink.
Rob Tashjian scored both goals in the loss for Lynnfield.
The Pioneers finish the season at 11-8-2.
MIAA BOYS HOCKEY
Division 2 North
Wilmington 3, Marblehead 1
Despite taking a 1-0 lead in the first period, the No. 4 Magicians were held scoreless for the remainder of the game in the Div. 2 North opener at Chelmsford Forum.
Will Shull scored the lone goal for Marblehead.
The Magicians finish the season at 14-4-4.
Triton 1, Winthrop 0
The No. 12 Vikings were shut out at Stoneham Arena in the Division 2 North opener.
Winthrop finishes the year at 9-9-3.
MIAA BOYS BASKETBALL
Division 3 North
Hamilton-Wenham 59, Swampscott 57
In an exciting back-and-forth game, the No. 12 Big Blue came within a couple bounces of a victory. After Hamilton-Wenham missed a pair of free throws in the final seconds, Swampscott secured the rebound and pushed the ball up the floor. Andrew Augustin put up a layup with the seconds ticking away, but the ball bounced off the rim as the buzzer sounded to give the Generals the victory.
Swampscott finishes the season at 9-12.
Watertown 56, Saugus 45
The No. 13 Sachems simply didn’t have enough firepower to get past the No. 4 seed on Tuesday night.
Christian Correia finished the night with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Myles Manalaysay scored 13 points. Mason Nickolas scored 12 points in the loss.
Saugus finishes the season at 9-12.
Division 4 North
Maimonides 60, Fenwick 48
It was a frustrating loss for the Crusaders, who only trailed 40-38 heading into the fourth quarter before getting outscored 20-10 in the final frame.
Fenwick closes the season at 11-10.
Division 1 North
Waltham 90, Revere 49
The No. 11 Patriots finish the season at 11-10.
