WOBURN — A Lynn man has been charged with committing 11 convenience store robberies across six communities.
Ramfis Casado, 34, was indicted on 10 counts of armed and masked robbery, 10 counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of assault and battery, unarmed robbery, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop a motor vehicle at a police stop and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office.
Authorities said Casado’s charges stem from a series of armed robberies that occurred in Malden, Everett, Melrose, Woburn, Waltham and Arlington between Nov. 12 and Dec. 9. He was armed with a knife in all but one of the robberies, the DA’s office said.
Casado is scheduled to be arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn on Friday.
He was arrested by the Malden Police Department on Dec. 10 on one count of armed and masked robbery in connection with a robbery he allegedly committed the previous day at In & Out Convenience Store on Lebanon Street, prosecutors said.
At the time, a Malden police officer had allegedly encountered Casado as he left the convenience store and chased him to a blue BMW sedan, but Casado was able to flee in the vehicle. Officers there learned that Casado had allegedly threatened the clerk with a knife and left the store with cash from the register, prosecutors said.
The next day, police executed a search warrant at a home where Casado had been renting a room and recovered items they believed connected him to other similar robberies that had been committed in Middlesex County, prosecutors said.
Casado has been held without bail since his Dec. 11 arraignment in Malden District Court. A subsequent investigation has linked him to additional masked robberies, prosecutors said.
Authorities said evidence included clothing and shoes that were seized from his room; data retrieved from his cellphone provider; and surveillance footage from a downtown Boston parking garage that allegedly shows Casado dropping off the blue BMW sedan, which had been reported stolen, with a valet shortly after the Malden robbery. Police recovered the car at the garage.
Casado has been charged with the following robberies:
- 7-Eleven on Salem Street in Malden on Nov. 12, 2019
- Arlington Convenience on Massachusetts Avenue in Arlington on Nov. 15, 2019
- 7-Eleven on Ferry Street in Everett on Nov. 20, 2019
