LYNN — A late Saturday morning fire that damaged a commercial building in Central Square was caused by roof repair work, according to the Lynn Fire Department.
Lynn firefighters responded to 7 Central Square shortly before 11 a.m. and had the fire under control by 11:40 a.m., Fire Capt. Joseph Zukas said.
There was minor damage to the brick building, which houses residential units and several businesses. None of its occupants were injured, Zukas said.
The fire has been deemed accidental. It was caused by workers who were using a heating element to do some repair work to the rubber roof, Zukas said.
“Lynn Fire made a quick stop to the fire,” said Zukas. “The building is habitable. Part of the roof will have to be repaired (because it was) damaged from the fire and from firefighting efforts to get to the fire.”
