LYNN — Essex Media Group, the parent company of The Item, will host a reception Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m. at the Lynn Museum to honor the eight Persons of the Year, which were selected and announced in December.
The Persons of the year — one each from the communities of Lynn, Swampscott, Saugus, Marblehead, Nahant, Lynnfield, Peabody and Revere — were chosen by EMG based on nominations from our readership. They reflect the nominee’s impact on the community, whether through politics, business, philanthropy, advocacy or other activities.
The winners are Dr. Kiame Mahaniah, Lynn, CEO of the Lynn Community Health Center; Phyllis Sagan, Swampscott, Sagan Harborside Sotheby’s International Realtors; Helaine Hazlett, Marblehead, chairwoman of the Marblehead Board of Health and co-founder of the Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation of Marblehead; George Markos, Nahant, owner of Brothers Deli in Lynn; Veronica Robles, Saugus, who runs a cultural center in Boston; Deanne Healey, Peabody; president of Peabody Main Streets; Carmela and Dick Dalton, Lynnfield, who, upon the death of their son, Michael, from an overdose established the “Think of Michael” nonprofit that provides sober-house financial aid for recovering addicts; and Jessica Ann Giannino, Revere, a city councilor at age 28..
All eight honorees put their own personal stamps on their communities in 2019. Some have been silently doing their philanthropic and charity works for years.
