Make that nine consecutive wins for the red-hot St. Mary’s girls basketball team.
Monday night at Tony Conigliaro Gymnasium, the Spartans rolled to an 82-46 Catholic Central League win over Cardinal Spellman.
St. Mary’s exploded for a 56-14 halftime lead and never looked back.
The Spartans (9-1) had 11 players score, led by double-digit scorers Maiya Bergdorf (12 points), Gabby Torres (11), Olivia Matela (11), and Jannise Avelino (10).
The Spartans host Cathedral in a big CCL matchup Friday night (6:30).
“We are playing very good basketball right now at both ends of the floor,” Spartans coach Jeff Newhall said. “Friday night we play cathedral, one of the top teams in the state, so that should be a good barometer as to where we are at. If we continue to play as hard as we are and make the extra pass on offense we will continue to get positive results.”
BOYS BASKETBALL
Classical 70, Saugus 55
Top performers for Classical were Jeffrey Hill (23 points), Jeff Barbosa (14) and Tony Palavra (10).
Saugus’ top performers were Christian Correia (16 points), Mason Nickolas (16) and Myles Manalaysay (15).
“If we can get over our slow starts, we play pretty even,” said Saugus coach Mark Bertrand. “We have a young team, we just have to believe we can win these games. It’s always tough to play at Classical. Jasper (Grassa) always does a good job getting his team ready. There’s no easy games in the Northeastern Conference. My goal is to get my team to believe they can win these games.”

The Sachems (2-6) host Swampscott Friday (7).
