Town resident John Wilson now claims that scheme mastermind Rick Singer misled him and also embezzled from him.
On Dec. 19, Wilson filed a supplemental motion to compel production of exculpatory evidence that he claims has been withheld by prosecutors.
The motion stated that Wilson “did not pay a single dollar as a bribe to any individual. Of the $200,000 Wilson intended to donate to USC, Singer stole half.”
Prosecutors say the 59-year-old Wilson, an investor who owns a $2.4 million, five-bedroom Colonial on Ashley Court, allegedly paid Singer $220,000 to get his son into the University of Southern California and onto the school’s water polo team in 2014, followed by $1 million for his twin daughters to attend Stanford and Harvard universities based, in part, on athletic skills they lacked, according to court documents.
Wilson claims that Singer made misrepresentations to him on multiple occasions, including Singer’s statement to Wilson that Singer was going to Harvard because Harvard’s president wanted to make a “side-door” deal.
The filing stated, “This was just one of the many false statements Singer made to soften up his marks for his con.”
Wilson’s attorney also demanded that prosecutors turn over evidence from discussions they have had with Singer about the case that might help Wilson’s defense.
The move followed a similar motion to force prosecutors to produce exculpatory evidence filed by “Full House” actress Lori Loughlin and her husband Mossimo Giannulli, which Wilson and several other defendants joined.
