The Lynn English girls basketball team started the season on a high note with a 61-42 win at Saugus Thursday.
Kylia Reynoso led English with 22 points, six assists and four steals. Julianna Perry contributed with 12 points and four steals. Maylin Echevarria poured in a solid performance with eight points and eight rebounds.
“It was a great team win,” English coach Mackenzie Charles said. “The girls were excited to show the hard work they’ve put in. Saugus is a good team. They’ll get better. Some of the teams might be a bit behind the 8-ball because of the weather. But our girls worked hard during the offseason. Our guards played great and we played great defensively.”
English (1-0) travels to Peabody for another Northeastern Conference tilt next Thursday (7).
“We’re going to get back on the gym, work on some more things that we haven’t been able to put in,” Charles said.” We’re getting back to work. Our goal is to beat everyone that’s in front of us.”
Saugus was led by Jillian Ricupero’s 15 points, while Shaylin Groark added six points. Nicole Stewart played well off the bench.
The Sachems (0-1) host Salem on Monday (7).
