MARBLEHEAD — Multimedia artist Bobbie Wayne will present “Greensleeves,” a one-woman Christmas musical play, at the Church of St. Andrew on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
In poetry, lore, and music sung and played on Celtic harp, Wayne will trace the history of the American Christmas celebration. The candle-lit performance will include songs in eight languages and will be informative, entertaining, funny and poignant. The goal is to leave the audience “in quiet contemplation of the promise of Christmas and the hope of peace for all,” Wayne said.
Wayne, who has a BA in music and an MFA in fine arts, is an artist, writer, and musician who has also worked as a music therapist. She plays popular music of the 18th century — on both Celtic harp and mountain dulcimer — at historic sites along with her husband, Dan Mozell.
Wayne wrote the “Greensleeves” Christmas show in 1989 and has performed it in churches, theaters, and concert halls in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Tennessee. It is recommended for ages 7 and older.
Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for those 17 and younger, and may be reserved by calling the parish office, 781-631-4951. Babysitting will be provided at no charge. Proceeds benefit the Growing into Our Future capital campaign of St. Andrew’s, for projects in support of the church’s 100th anniversary.
The Church of St. Andrew is at 135 Lafayette St. (Rte 114), near the Salem line, and is handicap accessible. For more information, www.standrewsmhd.org.
