Small acts of kindness can make a profound impact on a person’s life.
Some may not understand the significance of a child having a present to open on Christmas morning.
But if there wasn’t a gift under the tree, those children might wonder why “Santa Claus” made the trip to provide gifts to their friends and didn’t think to bring one to them.
They might ask their parents what they did wrong, if there was something that could explain why they did not get a gift that year. After all, their friends are all bragging about their new toys, electronics or clothes they received over the holidays.
For some parents, having their child wonder if he simply isn’t good enough can be heartbreaking, when the real reason “Santa” didn’t bring anything is those parents are barely making ends meet and that gift may be a luxury they cannot afford.
One single mother is trying to prevent that potential scenario this year. The woman’s life consists of caring for her 4-year-old disabled son and she has asked Item Santa to bring some joy to her family this Christmas. Her son’s gift list includes learning toys, cars and clothes.
“I am unable to work due to my son needing 24-hour care and I am very grateful for any help given,” the mother wrote in a brief, five-line letter.
Although the happiness that may come from being able to ensure her son has gifts to unwrap this Christmas morning could be fleeting, that small act of kindness may be the bright spot that mother needs to make the rest of her struggles more bearable.
