On Nov. 13, the Worcester Fire Department suffered yet another tragedy with the line of duty death of Fire Lt. Jason Menard. Lt. Menard selflessly and heroically gave his life saving the lives of two of his fellow firefighters while searching for a baby inside a burning home. He leaves behind his wife and three young children.
On Monday, Nov. 18, Lynn firefighters, along with firefighters from the North Shore boarded buses to travel to Worcester for the funeral of Menard. In Worcester, Lynn firefighters stood in the rain alongside firefighters from across the state, country and the world to honor Menard’s sacrifice.
There are several people and organizations we would like to thank for making our trip to and from Worcester possible. We would like to thank McGinn Bus Company for providing transportation; the Lynn Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police for ensuring a safe trip; state Rep. Donald Wong and the Kowloon Restaurant for offering up their parking lot as a drop off and pick up point for the buses, as well as parking for our members and lastly, the people of Lynn for their outpouring of support during this difficult time.
In closing, we would also ask that you continue to keep the family of Lt. Jason Menard, the injured firefighters from the fire and the members of the Worcester Fire Department in your prayers.
Respectfully,
The Officers and Members of Lynn Firefighters Local 739 and the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts
