LYNN — Police are looking for a masked man who robbed a Chestnut Street convenience store at gunpoint Sunday afternoon. The same man may have committed an armed robbery at a Chatham Street market hours later, police said.
“It could be the same man. It sounds like the same description and same-style robbery,” said Lynn Police Lt. Rick Donnelly, noting that both suspects had a handgun and were described as white men wearing a black ski mask.
Shortly after 1 p.m., Lynn Police responded to Big Brother’s Food Mart at 578 Chestnut St. and were told by a female clerk that the store had been robbed by a white man with a mustache who had been wearing a face mask, according to a police report.
The suspect brandished a handgun and threatened to shoot the clerk if she didn’t hand over money from the register. The employee told police she thought the gun was fake, but gave the suspect $120, according to the report.
The man then fled the store and was last seen running down Bowler Street. The incident is under investigation and police are checking surveillance footage in the area, according to scanner reports.
The suspect was further described as standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 180-190 pounds, according to the report.
The second robbery occurred at about 4:30 p.m. at Sunrise Market at 353 Chatham St. The suspect threatened the clerk with a gun until he was given about $100 from the cash register. He then fled the store, Donnelly said.
No arrests have been made and both incidents are under investigation.
