Here’s why the owner-occupied home real property tax is unfair.
Owners work hard to save money left over from paying taxes to afford to buy a home. As soon as they purchase it, they pay what amounts to an asset tax for the privilege of owning a home.
Unlike any other tax, the property tax must be paid without regard to the ability to pay: You pay or you lose your home.
Elected officials must eliminate this tax and replace the revenue cities and towns receive from it with state funds. For most people, this will mean paying less in state taxes than they pay in property taxes. Everyone will pay according to ability to pay.
