The Tech volleyball team put forth a solid team effort Thursday night, taking down Chelsea 3-0 on the road. The Tigers won by set scores of 25-18, 25-9, 25-18.
Nani Merced had a big game with eight aces and five kills, while KK Carrasquillo added four aces and eight kills. Nayelis Ortiz had three aces in the win.
Tech (8-5) is back in action tomorrow against Greater Lawrence (5:30).
VOLLEYBALL
Swampscott 3, Marblehead 1
Despite taking the first set, the Magicians fell by set scores of 25-23, 21-25, 22-25, 14-25.
Anna Arbo had five kills in the loss, while Lilah Thompson had three kills. Sam Oberlander had eight assists, while Thompson and Anna Schluter combined for 10 blocks.
Marblehead (9-5) takes on Bishop Fenwick Friday (5:30).
Classical 3, Winthrop 2
The Rams earned the win by set scores of 25-13, 22-25, 25-13, 24-26, 15-9.
Pamela Diaz had a huge game at the service line with 18 service points and six aces while also notching an impressive 32 digs. Amber Crayton had 13 service points, four aces and nine assists, while Cherish Nwoko had 14 kills. Kiara Edmonds had six kills and five assists, while Jean Gupton-Morrison had six assists.
Classical (12-2) travels to Salem Tuesday (5).
English 3, Salem 1
The Bulldogs dropped the opening set, but then battled back to win by set scores of 15-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-15.
English got great performances from Mandy Healy, Sofia Teixeira and Khammany Phommachanh in the win.
The Bulldogs (3-7) travel to Classical Thursday (5:30).
GIRLS SOCCER

Sandy Garcia netted the game-winner with Helen Pojoy’s assist.

Lynnfield 3, North Reading 1
Lynnfield extended its winning streak to 10 games Thursday night.
Molly Ozanian scored two goals in an eight-minute span to stake the Pioneers (10-2-1) to a 2-0 lead in the 15th minute. Anna Radulski converted a penalty kick with 10 minutes left in the game. Amberly McCarter and Lindsay Nardone earned the win in goal.
The Pioneers (10-2-1) are back in action at home against Wayland Monday morning at 11.
“They (Wayland) are a great squad this year, they beat Newton South and have played some big teams this year, so they are putting on a great run and will be tough,” said Lynnfield coach Mark Vermont.

Salem got wins from Ethan Doyle (5-4), Joe Parr (7-2), Brady Tremblay (5-4) and Jon Wasserman (6-3).

Marblehead got wins from Gavin Lundgren (7-2) and Matt Thompson (6-3) in the loss.

With the win, the Patriots qualified for the state tournament for the first time in 31 years.
