The Friends of the Library switched things up a bit this year and chose to present their Fall Used Book Sale in September rather than October. We had a beautiful sunny day for the event, with guest readers from the Lynnfield High School and Middle School music and drama programs providing story time for our smallest shoppers, and members of the Lynnfield Art Guild demonstrating plein air painting outside on the Common. We are so grateful to both organizations for collaborating with us this year, and hope to make it an annual partnership.
We were overwhelmed by the generous outpouring of donations from the community in the months leading up to the sale. Without your contributions, the sale could not have occurred. The Lynnfield library staff was extremely patient and helpful, organizing and managing the donations as they came in. And our small but mighty group of book sorting volunteers worked very hard transporting donations to the library’s boiler room and sorting and boxing the books in preparation for the sale. We could not hold the sale without their hard work.
The sale ran smoothly thanks to the efforts of the volunteers who put in the hard work of hauling carts of books from the library basement to the Meeting House and those who came in to run the sale, greeting shoppers and running the cash registers. We owe special thanks to our co-chair, Michelle MacLean, whose organizational skills kept us all on track.
Last but certainly not least, we want to thank our customers for coming and supporting the book sale, and through it, the library. Lynnfield’s library is a true community institution, available to all, with programs for everyone in Lynnfield from the smallest toddler to our eldest citizens. The Friends of the Lynnfield library fund many of those programs, largely through our twice-yearly book sales. Those of you who come to shop should feel a glow of pride every time you pass the library and see the great work that you have helped to fund. We are grateful to each and every one of you for your love of books and your warm support.
This year, we are offering another opportunity to stock your bookshelves for the winter and pick up some beloved titles to share with family and friends during the holiday season, as we will be running another book sale in the library on Nov. 2, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. We look forward to seeing you there.
