LYNN — The firm clearing demolition debris from the Anthony’s Hawthorne restaurant site called in a super-sized tow truck to right a large dumpster that tipped over Thursday morning.
A New Hampshire Demolition worker said no one was hurt in the mishap. The dumpster appeared to have tipped on its side in the process of being loaded or unloaded onto a truck or lifted into the air in preparation for dumping debris into the site’s excavation hole.
The force of the big metal container rolling onto its side twisted the truck’s metal frame and made a noise loud enough to bring people in nearby offices out to Willow Street.
Mike Cataldo of Lynn saw the dumpster tip as he walked out of the Willow Street post office.
“The truck was dumping dirt and it started tipping and went down. It seemed like it happened in slow motion. It was scary,” Cataldo said.
G/J Towing responded to the demolition site with two trucks. New Hampshire Demolition tore down the Anthony’s building at the corner of Oxford Street and Central Avenue earlier this week. Workers and equipment access the demolition site through the restaurant site’s former Willow Street parking lot.
