School Sports Roundup: Classical volleyball improves to 2-0

The Classical volleyball team has its first official winning streak of the 2019 season after earning a 3-0 win over Salem in a Northeastern Conference tilt Friday evening. The Rams won by set scores of 25-10, 25-9, 25-13.

Pamela Diaz and Brooke Warren dominated the service game, with Diaz racking up 23 service points and 13 aces and Warren notching 10 service points and five aces. Cherish Nwoko had seven kills, Jean Gupton-Morrison had four kills and Amber Crayton had three kills and seven assists. Chloe Clement and Vanessa Oscar each had three kills in the win.

Classical (2-0) hosts Marblehead Monday (5).


Tech 3, PMA 0

The Tigers won by set scores of 25-16, 25-22, 25-21. Nani Merced, Lilly Cote and Kendralize Del Valle all played well in the victory.

Tech (1-0) travels to Greater Lowell Monday (5:30).

Marblehead 3, Beverly 0

Marblehead earned its second win of the season by set scores of 25-21, 25-15, 25-15. Lilah Thompson had a big game with 10 kills, while Anna Arbo added seven kills. Abby Schwartz added 8 digs and Emme Smith had 21 assists in the win.

The Magicians (2-0) travel to Classical Monday (5).

Peabody 3, Swampscott 2

In a back-and-forth battle, the Tanners pulled out the win by set scores of 26-24, 19-25, 16-25, 15-10. Isabel Bettencourt had 12 assists and 13 digs, while Amanda Marmiani added 10 digs, while Aaliyah Alleyne had four kills and three blocks. 

Peabody hosts Masconomet Monday (5).

St. Mary’s 3, Essex Tech 2

The Spartans rallied from a 2-1 deficit to earn their first win of the season. They travel to Salem Monday (5). 


Danvers 40, Masconomet 20

Danvers was powered by the two-headed running back duo of Rich Canova (155 rushing yards, three touchdowns) and Chase Early (156 rushing yards, one touchdown) in the season-opening victory.

The Falcons (1-0) have a bye week before taking on Classical September 20 (7).


Danvers 3, Marblehead 0

Mae Colwell played well in the loss for the Magicians. Marblehead is back in action Monday in a road game against North Andover (4).

Swampscott 4, Saugus 0

Natalie Domeniconi led the way with two goals for Swampscott, while Brooke Waters and Olivia Baran each had one goal.

The Big Blue travel to Peabody Tuesday (4).

Revere 4, Malden 1

Katie O’Donnell scored all four goals for the Patriots, who improved to 2-0-1.
