LYNN — The award-winning summer continued for the Lynn Vocational Technical Institute SkillsUSA team when seven members and their advisor were honored by city and state officials on Tuesday evening.
The team members and advisor Jason McCuish were awarded citations from Mayor Thomas M. McGee, the City Council and state Rep. Peter Capano (D-Lynn) on behalf of the state legislature for bringing home four national medals from the National SkillsUSA Conference in Louisville, Ky., two months ago.
David Barrios, Erick Hernandez and Brian Lopez received the gold medal in community service. Camron McCuish and Luis Pineiro took home a gold medal in community action. Edward Cuevas and John Diaz earned recognition as a National Model of Excellence based on their presentation.
The entire chapter was recognized with the President’s Volunteer Service Award for its commitment to community service, which is given to teams that contribute more than 1,000 hours of volunteer work. In addition to the team being recognized, McCuish was named National SkillsUSA Advisor of the Year.
There were more than 20,000 participants at the competition and the Tech chapter competed against teams from every state.
“Congratulations on your well-deserved and hard-earned medals,” said McGee, who added that McCuish has been a real leader. “We’re very proud of the work you’re doing.”
