The field for Friday’s final round of the 52nd annual Ouimet Memorial Tournament at Woodland Golf Club has been officially set following Thursday’s second round of the Championship Proper at Boston Golf Club. Following the 18 holes of play Thursday, 33 competitors in the Championship Division will advance to the final round.
After finishing his first round in second place on the leaderboard, four strokes off leader Steven DiLisio, Sudbury’s Matt Organisak carded a second straight 2-under 69 mark on Thursday to jump into sole possession of the lead with one round remaining.
Playing in the morning round on Thursday, the Nashawtuc Country Club member Organisak carded a birdie on his opening hole — the par-5 first — before carding three straight pars to keep his momentum.
In his second nine, Organisak tallied five straight pars before carding additional birdies down the stretch before he bogeyed the final hole to move back to 2-under for the day. With his combined score from Wednesday, Organisak sits at 4-under 138 for the tournament, one stroke ahead of both Krekorian and Cummings.
The day was not as positive for DiLisio, who saw his lead and his position on the leaderboard disappear quickly after a second-round score of 5-over 77. A birdie on the first hole was followed by a par on No. 2 to start on a high note, but then a double bogey on the third hole and another bogey on the seventh hole killed his momentum. After four more bogeys on the back nine, DiLisio retreated back to sole possession of fifth place.
Woodland Golf Club in Newton’s Auburndale neighborhood — the home course of the tournament’s namesake Francis Ouimet — will host the final round of the Championship Proper on Friday as it has in each of the previous 51 tournaments dating back to the inaugural event in 1968. Organisak and the other leaders will tee off in the final group at 11:38 a.m., while DiLisio will play in the second-to-last group with an 11:27 tee time.
