SWAMPSCOTT — Popular scams, such as the IRS scam, the bail/accident scam, the sweepstakes scam, the tech support scam, and the internet sale scam, were highlighted in posters given out by the police department at its informational meeting Tuesday morning.
Members of the department and representatives from several local businesses and civic groups attended the brief informational meeting about preventing scams that are targeting the community.
According to a press release from the police department, police discussed the various methods individuals use to scam money out of victims.
Attendees were given scam alert posters to put up on their properties. The poster was equipped with tips and tricks to help residents avoid getting scammed, such as not wiring or giving money to anyone you do not know personally.
