Man arrested for stabbing his stepfather in Lynn

LYNN — A 44-year-old man has been arrested for stabbing his stepfather repeatedly last month, police said.

Sonny Thompson, of New York, N.Y., was arrested in New Jersey on a warrant out of Lynn District Court and charged with armed assault to murder and mayhem, according to Lynn Police Lt. Chris Kelly.

Thompson was transported from New Jersey to Lynn on Friday and is expected to be arraigned in Lynn District Court on Monday, Kelly said.

The arrest stemmed from an early morning incident on June 8, where Thompson allegedly stabbed his stepfather inside an Essex Street home. The victim was found with multiple stab wounds to his neck, the back of his head and left eye, and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, but was able to recover, Kelly said.
