BOSTON — A Saugus man was arrested Tuesday on drug and firearm offenses, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
Vinicius “Vinny” Teixeira, 29, was charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and one count of possession of an American Tactical 9mm semiautomatic pistol containing 11 rounds of ammunition in a drug trafficking crime.
Teixeira was held following an appearance in U.S. District Court. A detention hearing is scheduled Friday before Magistrate Judge Judith G. Dein.
The charge of possession with intent to distribute pot provides a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, supervised release, and a fine of up to $1 million. Possession of a firearm in a drug trafficking crime provides for a mandatory five-year sentence.
