LYNN — A 28-year-old Lynn man was arrested on heroin and cocaine trafficking charges after police say they saw him making a drug transaction on Lawton Avenue Wednesday night.
Jose Arias was charged with heroin trafficking 100-plus grams, cocaine trafficking 18-plus grams, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and on warrants.
His arrest was a result of an investigation by the Lynn Police Drug Task Force, with officers conducting surveillance as part of that investigation, Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec said.
Police saw Arias meet up with someone and conduct what they believe was a drug transaction shortly before 7 p.m., Kmiec said.
When officers tried to walk up to Arias, he took off running while holding a plastic cup that was later found to contain a large amount of pre-packaged drugs. Police were eventually able to take him into custody after a pursuit, Kmiec said.
Inside the cup were 107 grams of heroin. After arresting Arias, police searched his apartment at 10 Lawton Ave. and seized 30 grams of cocaine, $225 in cash, drug paraphernalia and two more bags which were sent for analysis to determine if they contained more drugs or cutting agents, Kmiec said.
The seized drugs have an estimated street value of $13,700. Arias had been deported once before and his warrants out of Salem District Court were for conspiracy to violate the drug law and Class A drug possession with intent to distribute, Kmiec said.
