Letter to the Editor: Mackin is a man on a marathon mission

Lynn resident Thomas Makin is running the Boston Marathon. (Spenser R. Hasak)

On Monday, April 15, 2019, I will participate in my first Boston Marathon running with the MGH Emergency Response Team. In order to run for this team each runner was responsible to raise $6,500. In the past months I have had a few fundraisers and on Friday, March 8, hosted my last fundraiser at the Hibernian Hall and am happy to say that I have reached my goal!

My journey to the marathon has been an incredible experience. I’ve not only had the support of friends and family but also from the Lynn community. Growing up in the city of Lynn, I’ve always known that we live in a community that comes together and encourages and supports one another. Being the recipient of this encouragement and support has made me appreciate the community I live in even more.

Thank you to everyone who sent in a donation, supported me at Tony’s Pub, bought a Super Bowl Square and/or came to the Hibernian Hall! I am truly grateful!

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the following individuals and/or companies that contributed to the raffle table:

Tony Nicosia/Tony’s Pub and Grill, The Leo Family/Metro Bowl/Spare Time Tavern, Rolly Hayes/Rolly’s Tavern, Kathy Kidney Alukonis/Cher Magic Salon, Jennifer Fulk/Celtic Tickets, Bill Terlecky/North Shore Navigators, New England Aquarium, The Glynn Hospitality Group/The Black Rose, Mr. Wong/Kowloon Komedy Club, Jaselyn Roman/Expertease Studio, Swan Boats of Boston, Old Town Trolley, Mike and Sandi Anastos/The Yellow Farmhouse Inn, Don Crowell/Larcom Theatre, Boston Bruins Organization, Tanya Crowell, Mark Amirault/Darts & Parts, Anne Magner/Easter Basket, Geo and Steph Sonia/Winter Basket, Cheryl Matsubara/Jewelry Basket, Bentwater Brewery, Mighty Squirrel Brewery, Kathy Ryan/Amazing Peep and Amazon Card, Scott Faessler/RJI Landscaping, The Martin and Lockwood Families/Scratch Ticket Basket, George Bakis/Nicky’s Pizza, Bob Stilian and Diane Chakoutis of Old Tyme for not only donating a gift certificate but for also providing the food and the Hibernians for donating the hall.

I would also like to thank Steve Krause at The Daily Item for taking the time to talk with me and writing such a supportive article.

Thank you again to everyone. See you at the finish line!

Thomas Mackin
