LYNN — The Friendly Knights of St. Patrick hold their 73rd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Scholarship Dinner Thursday, March 14, 6 p.m. at Hibernian Hall, 103 Federal St.
Featuring traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner, and live Irish music, the evening honors 2019 selections for Irishman of the Year and the Solimine Community Service recipient.
The dinner’s mission includes raising money to provide scholarships for Lynn students to allow them to succeed in college.
An application from Shàneil Nelson, a Lynn Vocational Technical Institute student, moved the scholarship committee last year. She described her struggles with homelessness during her freshman year and her hour-long commute from school to a shelter.
Hardships did not prevent her from persevering as an A student now attending Boston College. The Friendly Knights were able to provide her $20,000, their largest scholarship to date.
Nelson’s story is the reason the Friendly Knights continue with these events. The more successful they are, the more Lynn students they can help. Tickets for the dinner are $30 and the committee is also seeking program sponsors: “Green” level sponsors in the amount of $100; “Gold” level sponsors in the amount of $250, and “Diamond” level sponsors for $500 and higher.
Sponsorship donations need to be received by March 8 in order to print in the program. All donations are tax deductible.
Sponsorships and tickets can be reserved via email to mcdonald W74@gmail.com, mconlon55@hotmail.com, or jeffweeden@gmail.com. Please make all checks payable to: Friendly Knights of St. Patrick, P.O. Box 8212 Lynn, MA 01904.
