Will Batchelder hit the go-ahead bucket with just two seconds remaining to give the St. John’s Prep basketball team a 74-72 win over Catholic Memorial in a Catholic Conference battle Friday night.
Batchelder finished the game with 29 points, while Liam Dunfee added 15 points and Patrick Atkins had 10 points.
The Eagles (6-4) take on another Catholic Conference rival Tuesday when they host Xaverian (7).
BOYS BASKETBALL
St. Mary’s 69, Cathedral 41
At Tony Conigliaro Gymnasium, the Spartans (10-0) clinched a state tournament berth with the win.
Joey Abate-Walsh led St. Mary’s with 17 points and four assists. Jalen Echevarria scored 11 points.
The Spartans host TechBoston Sunday (4:30).
English 95, Beverly 59
The Bulldogs were led by another stellar from Jarnel Guzman, who scored 27 points. Alonzo Linton logged a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Justin Fitzpatrick (16 points), Mason Jean-Baptiste (13) and Jack Rodriguez (10) also scored in double-figures.
English (8-1) hosts Classical Wednesday (7).
Tech 52, Greater Lawrence 39
Rob Wallace propelled the Tigers with a double-double (19 points, 10 rebounds). Other top contributors were Buba Ceesay (11 points, five rebounds) and Amari Gaston (six points, five assists, four steals).
Bishop Fenwick 45, Archbishop Williams 39
Nate Andrews logged a double-double for the Crusaders in the win, notching 10 points and 10 rebounds. Fenwick (7-2) hosts Arlington Catholic Wednesday (6:30).
Salem 67, Swampscott 33
Isaiah Williamson led the way for the Witches with 27 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Jhoan Vago added 14 points.
Salem (7-2) travels to Essex Tech Tuesday.
Gloucester 68, Saugus 45
Christian Correia scored 21 points for the Sachems (0-8). Jake Morgante logged a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Sachems visit Matignon Monday (6:30).

GIRLS BASKETBALL
English 28, Beverly 25
The Bulldogs improved to 6-2.
Stacy Abreu scored 10 points with four rebounds. Ravyn Rapley dominated the paint with 11 rebounds.
English hosts New Mission in a non-conference tilt Monday (5:30).
Archbishop Williams 47, Bishop Fenwick 46
Fenwick rallied after trailing 41-32 heading into the fourth, but the Crusaders couldn’t climb all the way back.
Liz Gonzalez had 16 points and three steals, while Liv DiPietro had 13 points and five rebounds. Sammi Gallant had 10 points, seven assists, and three steals.
Fenwick (5-5) travels to Arlington Catholic Tuesday (6:30).
Swampscott 54, Salem 27
Sophie DiGrande led the Big Blue with 18 points, five steals and five rebounds. Emerson Laundry and Grace DiGrande each chipped in with seven points.
Swampscott moves to 7-1 on the season.
Cathedral 53, St. Mary’s 39
Despite holding a 17-point lead early on, the Spartans suffered a number of setbacks in the second half Cathedral rallied. The Spartans committed 16 turnovers and had three starters foul out.
The Spartans were led by Olivia Matela (14 points), Pam Gonzalez (10 points) and Alyssa Grossi (six points, 11 rebounds).
St. Mary’s drops to 8-3.
Saugus 51, Gloucester 28
The Sachems had 10 players score, led by Alessia Salzillo’s 12 points. Taylor Bogdanski had 11 points, while Molly Granara added nine points. Kiley Ronan, Fallon Miller and Alana Aldred all played well defensively.
Saugus (5-5) has a full week off before taking on Danvers next Friday.
Revere 58, Marblehead 37
Marblehead was led by Emily Clough’s 14 points and seven rebounds, while Maddy Lowy had seven points and two rebounds. Maddie Erskine added six points and four rebounds in the loss.
The Magicians (2-5) visit Hamilton-Wenham Monday.
SWIMMING
Shawsheen Tech 92, Lynn Tech 84
It all came down to the final relay, but the Tigers came up just short. Winners for Tech included Liam Donovan in the 200-meter freestyle (personal-best 2:32.28), Luis Hernandez in diving (175.6), Dustin Bloom in the 100 freestyle (1:09.47) and Jin Purdy in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.28). The Tigers also got a win in the 200 freestyle relay, with the team of Hernandez, Bloom, Donovan and Jacob Lejeune earning a time of 2:00.84.
Tech (1-4) is back in the pool Wednesday against Blue Hills.
Marblehead 94, Malden 87
The Magicians remained undefeated with a win over Malden Thursday. Theo Chemel won the 500 (5:10:39) and Brian Coleman won the 50 freestyle (23.03).
