Despite a solid effort in the pool, the English swim team dropped a close match to Medford with an 89-84 loss Thursday night at Lynn Tech.
English featured first-place winners in Peter Phelan (200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke), Hannah Trahant (diving), Amanda Fabrizio (500 freestyle) and Mary Lawlor (100 backstroke).
The Bulldogs visit Revere next Tuesday.
SWIMMING
Malden 92, Peabody 91
The Tanners were handed their first loss of the season. Peabody featured first-place winners in Tanners captain Kirsten Currie (who qualified for the 500 freestyle at 5:39.41) and the 200 freestyle team of captain Anthony Michillo, Stephanie McLean, Lily Bromberger and captain William Connolly (1:51.13).
Within five points of Malden across nine of the 12 events, the meet was decided by one point during the final event – the 400 freestyle relay, making this the tightest meet the Tanners had competed in this season.
Peabody dives back into the pool next Thursday when the Tanners host Somerville.
Danvers 61, Swampscott 40
The Falcons improved to 5-1 with the win. Danvers featured first-place winners in Raphael Hicaro (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle) and Ethan McGrath (100 backstroke). The Falcons also won first place in all three relays.
WRESTLING
St. John’s 43, B.C. High 29
The Eagles brought home a win in their first Catholic Conference meet of the season. Winners were Nick Curley (106 pounds), Alec Runnals (120 pounds), Ryan Garlitz (138 pounds), Matt Mitchell (145 pounds), Achilles Gikas (152 pounds), Marty Roach (160 pounds), Ben Shaw (170 pounds), Drew Leahy (182 pounds) and Will Moulton (285 pounds).
The Eagles are 13-1 this season.
BOYS TRACK
Salem 51, English 30
English’s first-place winners were Francisco Cubas (55 meter hurdle) and Adnan Jalal (1000 meter dash).
Saugus 44, Winthrop 42
Saugus’ first-place winners were Edlyn Dos Santos (shot put), Marvens Jean (50-yard hurdle), Bruno Auzec (300 meter dash) and Justin Ciampa (mile).
Peabody 61, Marblehead 25
Peabody’s first-place winners were Gabriel Carvalho (shot put), Kemani Jackson (45-yard hurdle), Jacob Hawthorne (45-yard dash), Jared Ridley (300 meter dash), Chris Morales (600 meter dash), Pablo Rodriguez (1000 meter dash), Antonio Craveiro (mile) and Claudio Rocha (two miles).
Marblehead’s lone first-place winner was Richard Decarvalho in the high jump.
Somerville 50.5, Swampscott 35.5
Swampscott’s first-place winners were Joseph Varghese (high jump), Anton Vasquez (shot put), Owen Bergeron (600 meter dash) and Dylan Brawley (mile).

English’s first-place winners were Erin Galloway (high jump, two miles), Kahlee Smith-Whelton (shot put, 55 meter dash), Ashley Jonathan (55 meter hurdle), Liany Morel (300 meter dash), Amy Gutierrez (600 meter dash), Khyahjah Alexander (1000 meter dash), Jackie Ramirez (mile).

Saugus’ first-place winners were Ava Florino (high jump), Serena Cacciola (50-yard dash), Jenni Costa (300 meter dash) and Gabbi Moreschi (1000 meter dash).

Peabody’s first-place winners were Aaliyah Alleyae (high jump), Courtney Kline (shot put), Fadima Kaba (45-yard hurdle), Jolene Murphy (45-yard dash), Alexandra Bettencourt (300 meter dash), Lillian Brennan (600 meter dash) and Victoria Lombardi (mile).
Marblehead’s first-place winners were Bella Corsini (1000 meter dash) and Caroline Johnson (two miles).
