PEABODY – A passenger was killed and two operators were hospitalized early Saturday morning in a wrong way crash, according to police.
Peabody police responded to the two-car crash near 285 Lynnfield Street at 1:04 a.m. Upon arrival, police saw two motor vehicles in the eastbound lane. Vehicle one was facing west, while vehicle two was in the eastbound direction.
A 51-year-old man, a passenger in the second vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identification is being withheld pending family notification, according to Peabody Police Captain Dennis Bonaiuto.
The operators of both vehicles and the single passenger of the second vehicle were trapped inside. Peabody firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians removed them and provided medical assistance.
The operators of each vehicle, a 22-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman, both Peabody residents, were rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital.
Lynnfield Street was closed to traffic for three hours during an investigation of the crash scene. No charges have been filed at this time.
The investigation is ongoing in conjunction with Peabody police and the Massachusetts State Police Reconstruction Unit.
