LYNN — A Lynnway business was among a wave of businesses in Greater Boston and across the country that received emailed bomb threats demanding a Bitcoin payment on Thursday.
Pride Hyundai, at 777 Lynnway, received a threat, which was found to be not credible, according to police.
Mayor Thomas M. McGee shared a message on Facebook from the Lynn Police Department saying law enforcement agencies have received reports of private businesses in the Boston area receiving emailed bomb threats referencing explosive devices at businesses and demanding a Bitcoin payment.
At least 14 other Massachusetts communities in addition to Lynn have received similar threats. Law enforcement agencies across the nation are reporting bomb threats in Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee and Texas, according to police.
Recipients of the emails have included private businesses, schools, government facilities and private residences.
All bomb threats should be reported to police.
