Makeup artist Genesis Grullon owns Slay N’ Glam, a tiny cosmetics studio/store at 1 Market St. in Lynn. The Lynn English High School grad and current Marketing major at Salem State University opened her shop last December. It’s glamorous, with a touch of Hollywood essentials: accent glitter wall, chandelier, velour hot-pink tufted chair, and vanity makeup mirrors. The Fashion Monger felt a sense of Lynn pride inside Genesis’ studio.

The season’s must-have accessory? LASHES!  If you are looking for temporary glam for a night on the town, Genesis, who was allowed wear makeup at age 16, will apply ready-to-wear “temporary” lashes with lash adhesive. Looking for a longer commitment? Eyelash extensions may be for you: A single extension lash is applied to the natural lash, giving the appearance of having mascara on without the clumps and smudging.

Genesis shared her expertise with The Fashion Monger:

At Slay N’ Glam, we sell products that aren’t otherwise available in our area, that are exclusively sold online. We offer makeup applications, makeup classes, private one-on-ones, and eyelash extensions.

We carry over 20 brands like Beauty Blender, Impressions Vanity, LA Girl, LA Splash Cosmetics, Gerard Cosmetic, Pearl Lashes, Lash Pop, Be Bella and many more.

The foundation we carry in store is LA Girl, and we use it on most of our clients. It’s targeted for oily to combination skin but it’s a very good, affordable foundation. If you prep your skin correctly before applying, set it with a good powder and setting spray it’ll work on all skin types.

Depending on the type of skin you have, you can use a primer for either dry or oily skin. You can also use a primer to cover any pores you don’t want. We offer primers for all different skin types.

Highlight and contour is used to create shadows and brighten certain areas on your face. It enhances the features on the face, whether you’d like to be create the illusion of a slimmer face or would want to brighten your under-eyes to create dimension on your face.

As for beauty tips, don’t go to sleep with makeup on. It really damages your skin. And make sure to wash all brushes and beauty blenders, it’s easy for them to catch a lot of bacteria.
