Bring on Watertown.
The was the No. 4 Lynnfield field hockey’s team cry after Saturday afternoon’s 3-1 victory over No. 5 Weston in the quarterfinals of the Division 2 North tournament.
Jen Flynn had a monster game, scoring the first two Pioneer goals and assisting on the third, while Lily Rothwell scored a goal and had one assist.
“This was a hard-fought game,” said Pioneers coach Mamie Reardon. “We had a strong first half and controlled the game, but after we scored, they turned it on with some very good passing. It will be great to get another another shot at Watertown.”
Flynn opened the scoring at the 16:44 mark on a corner. Ashley Barrett played the ball to Abby Buckley, who made a stick stop, then passed to Brianna Barrett. Barrett slipped the ball to Carolyn Garofoli, who drilled a shot that was redirected into the net by Flynn.
Weston’s Ani Dahl scored with 4:32 left in the half to tie the game, 1-1.
Lynnfield regained the lead with 22:36 left on Flynn’s second tally (Rothwell assist).
Rothwell gave Lynnfield some breathing room when she collected her own rebound, waist high, and tapped it home with 2:48 to play.
Lynnfield will take on the undefeated, 9-time defending state champion Raiders at Reading Thursday (TBD).
GIRLS SOCCER
Concord-Carlisle 6, Classical 0
Classical girls soccer coach Mark Ierardi hoped Sunday’s Division 2 North first round tilt at No. 3 Concord-Carlisle would be a defensive game. For 38 minutes, that’s exactly what it was. Then the Patriots scored twice in the final two minutes of the opening half and bumped a 1-0 edge to a 3-0 lead at recess.
Classical didn’t have enough in store for a second-half comeback and the No. 14 Rams watched their season end in a 6-0 loss at Memorial Stadium.
“We heard Concord-Carlisle was a dynamite team,” Ierardi said. “They didn’t disappoint. We played them tough for about 30 minutes. They’re a very skilled, patient team. They waited for their chances.
“Hats off to them. Sometimes you just get beat by a better team. One thing I’ll say about our girls is they never gave up. That’s all any coach can ask for, is that your girls give 110 percent.”
Classical’s star of the game, undoubtedly, was freshman goalie Anna Flaherty who made 15 saves.
Classical ends the season at 9-9-1.
“We have a very good nucleus coming back and from what I’m hearing the incoming freshmen could be pretty good,” Ierardi said. “We’re definitely trending in the right direction.”
St. Mary’s 4, Lowell Catholic 0
At No. 7 Lowell Catholic in the Division 4 North first round, Kayla Demers scored twice, while Emily Egan and Jenna Foley each scored once. Freshman goalie Jada Mateo earned the shutout win with five saves.
“It was a good effort,” Spartans coach Jim Foley said. “We were down two starters. Jada came in and had a great game. Freshman Meaghan Leavitt started and played a great game on defense. Emily Egan came back and played a great game. Having her back was a huge plus. Emily, Sherly Feliz and Katie O’Neill all played great games.”
No. 10 St. Mary’s travels to No. 2 Tech Boston Tuesday (3:30) in the Division 4 North quarterfinal.
Peabody 2, Central Catholic 0
The No. 6 Tanners found their footing as the game went on but both teams remained scoreless deep into the second half.
With just over 12 minutes remaining, Bridget O’Connell lined up to take a corner kick. O’Connell placed a nice kick in front of the net and after several blocked shots by the Central Catholic defense Olivia Lavalle finished the play with a goal to put Peabody ahead 1-0.
“That was huge for us,” Peabody coach Dennis Desroches said. “The relentless effort to find that ball out front with Olivia and then Amber Kiricoples fighting for that off ball later. We knew if we kept that pressure up that something was coming and it payed off in the second half for us.”
Peabody added another goal not long after with just a few minutes left to play. Kiricoples won a foot race with the Central Catholic goalkeeper to a loose ball in the box and slipped by a shot to put the game out of reach at 2-0 with just over two minutes.
Peabody visits No. 3 Westford Academy Tuesday (6) in the Division 1 North quarterfinal.
Saugus 1, Bedford 0 (OT)
With the win, Saugus advanced to the Division 3 North quarterfinal where the Sachems will host NEC rival Swampscott (7). The game will be played in Melrose.
Austin Prep 1, Lynnfield 0
The No. 8 Pioneers fell on a late penalty kick. Lynnfield ends the season at 12-5-3.

The No. 2 Pioneers host No. 7 Tewksbury Monday evening (6) in the Division 2 North quarterfinals.
