NAHANT — Spiderman, Princess Aurora, Minnie Mouse, and King Kong paraded around the Johnson Elementary School, then through the halls where they were cheered on by spectators — fellow students — lining their lockers Wednesday morning.
The costume parade is a longstanding tradition for preschoolers at Nahant’s only elementary school. Kindergarten teacher Blythe Purdin said it was revamped this year for her students, who dressed as their favorite book characters and toted a hard copy for the walk.
Many of the 5- and 6-year-olds were committed to their new personas.
“My name is Winnie the Pooh,” yelled Emmet LaMothe as his teacher took his picture.
Aurora Amancio chose to dress as Pinkalicious, the start of a series of books that celebrates all things pink, for simple reasons.
“My favorite colors are pink and red,” she said.
“I liked the parade,” said Freddy Fiore, dressed as Pete The Cat. “I liked seeing my mommy.”
Parents hung around for 15 minutes after drop-off to watch the children proudly circle the building.
