MARBLEHEAD — A 16-year-old student has been arrested after allegedly threatening on social media to bring a weapon to Marblehead High School.
Marblehead Police were alerted to the threat on Sunday evening and had a presence at the school on Monday out of an abundance of caution, according to Police Chief Robert Picariello.
According to the police log, a father reported his daughter received a text message sent to a group regarding possible threats and was concerned because of the nature of the threat.
Marblehead High School Principal Daniel Bauer said in an email to parents a “concerning social media exchange” referenced a student bringing a weapon to school. He said police deemed the threat to not be credible after an investigation and identified the student who sent the message.
The incident is under investigation and Picariello said he doesn’t expect anyone else to be charged at this time. The student arrested was charged with making a threat to school.
“The student who was identified in the threat will not be in school during the investigation,” Bauer said in an email. “The Marblehead High School administration takes this seriously and will continue to be vigilant when information such as this is brought to our attention.”
School Superintendent Maryann Perry did not respond to a request for comment.
