The Peabody girls soccer team punched its ticket to the Division 1 state tournament Tuesday evening following a 6-2 win over Marblehead.
Emily McDonough led the way with a hat trick for the Tanners, while Aja Alimonte contributed two goals. Bridget O’Connell had one goal, while Colleen Crotty had two assists. Amber Kiricoples and Samantha Simmons each had one assist.
On the defensive end, Jordyn Collins and Madeleine Scacchi and McKayla Fisher all played well. Goalkeeper Shelby Doucette had a big game with nine saves in the win.
Peabody (8-4-1) visits Tewksbury Thursday.
For Marblehead (3-8), Grace Arthur and Maddie McKay each scored one goal. Goalkeeper Rachel Saulnier had 21 saves.
GIRLS SOCCER
Revere 1, Classical 0
The Rams fell on a penalty kick early in the second half, as the Classical offense struggled to generate much offense. Classical (6-4-1) hosts Salem Thursday.
BOYS SOCCER
Peabody 5, Marblehead 1
The Tanners were led by a two-goal effort from Michael Beader. Johnny Alves added one goal and one assist, while Michael Tansey and Kyle Morris each scored one goal.
“It was a good win,” said Peabody coach Stan McKeen. “I thought we started slow but as the game went on we started to get control. We controlled the game in the second half.”
Peabody (7-3-2) hosts Classical Thursday.
Lynn Tech 2, Shawsheen Tech 0
The Tigers qualified for the state tournament. Geo Martinez and Ashby Murphy each scored one goal.
“My team played very hard until the end,” said Tech coach Eric Moreno Sr. “Shawsheen was a very tall and physical team, and I was very proud of how hard my team fought in this one.”
Tech visits Marblehead Thursday.
GOLF
Classical 37, Peabody 35
With the help of a junior varsity player called up to the big squad, the Rams earned a close win. Sophomore Daniel Finnigan won his match 8-1 to help tip the scales in Classical’s favor. Brendan Lannon shot a 39 and won his match 5 1/2-3 1/2, while Tim Nerich and Kyle McCarthy also won their matches.
Classical (12-4) hosts Winthrop Wednesday at Gannon.
St. Mary’s 209, St. Joseph’s Prep 125
Behind a huge 40-point performance by Aidan Emmerich, the Spartans completed their undefeated CCL schedule.
Christian Emmerich added 38 points, while Luke Smith had 34 points. Pete Pagliuca (29 points), Owen Maguire (24 points), Luke Sargent (22 points) and Sean Mathers (22 points) also contributed.
St. Mary’s (14-3, 13-0 CCL) closes out the regular season Thursday at Gloucester.
Swampscott 47 1/2, Saugus 24 1/2
The Big Blue got wins from all eight of their players at Cedar Glen. Winners for Swampscott were Danny Dilisio (8-1), Nate Stern (7-2) Tate Greenfield (6-3), Jake Goldman (5 1/2-3 1/2), Aidan Graciale (5 1/2-3 1/2), Lou Spellios (5 1/2-3 1/2), Max Pegnato (5-4) and Ryan Graciale (5-4).
Swampscott (11-4-1) visits Peabody Wednesday.
Marblehead 57 1/2, Somerville 14 1/2
The Magicians had six players break 40 b. Brendan Locke, Ben Weed and Gavin Lundgren each shot a score of 37, while Will Cleary, Finn Keaney and Ben Gansenberg each shot a score of 39.
Marblehead (10-3-1) visits Danvers Wednesday.
VOLLEYBALL
Swampscott 3, Somerville 0
The Big Blue earned the win by set scores of 25-10, 25-12, 25-20.
Annika Laudemann had a big day with three kills and 24 digs, while Morgan Lenihan had three blocks and five aces. Cassidy Ryan added 11 assists, while Alexandra Danilov had three kills.
Peabody 3, Classical 2
The Rams had their 12-game winning streak snapped, falling by set scores of 22-25, 25-16, 19-25, 25-23, 15-10.
Shanelle Belmer-Barry led Classical with 13 kills , 17 digs and four blocks, while Skyler Crayton had seven kills and one block. Maggie McHale added six kills and three blocks. Keysha Chevannes had 10 assists and 20 digs, while Amber Crayton had nine service points, six assists and 18 digs. Pamela Diaz added 20 digs of her own, while Kiara Edmonds and 10 service points.
Classical (12-3) plays Medford at Tech Thursday.
Peabody (10-4) qualified for the state tournament. Alexa Flewelling had a season-high 25 kills, while Rachel Coleman had an impressive 41 assists and Tatiana Correia had 35 digs and seven assists. Ava LaValle added 12 kills in the win.
Marblehead 3, Malden 0
Marblehead won in straight sets, 25-14, 25-11, 25-23.
Jordan Heafitz led the way with seven kills and two blocks, while Isabel Curtin had 18 assists and four aces.
Beverly 3, Everett 0
The Panthers won by set scores of 25-23, 27-25, 25-16.
Kate Mulligan had 12 kills in the win, while Alice Malgara had six kills and nine digs. Avery Barror had six aces, while Angel Deschamps had 15 assists and five aces and Keishanelie Santiago had six digs.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
St. Mary’s 26, Bishop Fenwick 29
St. Mary’s 15, Matignon 50
The Spartans were able to sweep their tri-meet. Taban Manyok was the top finisher for St. Mary’s in second place, while Mike Carroll finished in fourth place and Anthony D’Itria finished in fifth place. Kyle Kwiatek finished in the eighth place.
